Winter Sniper Tactics
« on: August 11, 2008, 08:00:40 AM »
Does anyone have any good tactics for fighting winter battles? I mean we live in Maine which is the winter state, I played a game last winter and I noticed some stuff.

Pros for the winter sniper
-Bolt-Actions are more relabile than AEGs during the winter and basically anytime.
-Targets are easier to find because of the tracks they leave.
-Camofaluge is much easier as you only need one color white.
-A sniper rifle makes a nice oar to get through the snow!

Cons for the winter sniper
-Because tracks make the enemy easier to find you are also easier to find.
-Scopes often become clogged with snow (Luckily I had a water/fogproof scope)
-As in any airsoft game where you use a bolt-action the AEG-Armed enemy
has a higher rate of fire than you.

one trick i have used is to leave tracks purposly where the enemy will find them.  Then you do a giant loop and set up 50 yards away looking at the footprint trail u made.  when the enemy comes along following your trail, BOOM.  but one of the hardest things of being a winter sniper is sitting/laying in the snow and waiting for the ememy to come to you.  you get really cold really quick laying down in the snow not moving.

white is not the only color you need.
many green and brown colors are still used during winter.

always remember a ghillie suit does not make you invisible.
it is there only to chage the shape of the person, making it harder to be spotted at a distance.

trust if you're wearing all white sitting near some pine trees... you will stand out.
unless you're Ghost then heck it could be any tree you see walking around.

Or a giant walking fernbush with a rifle barrel sticking out of it.

And yes, you need many other colors, becase there are still trees, underbrush and patches of dirt under trees that don't have snow

Like our last stand at the CP, I had NO idea where you were, then when we started taking losses, and I was behind the wall/door, a bush appears next to me lol. And god ghille runners annoy me sometimes.

its probably not a good idea to use a gas sniper during the colder months. That shit will freeze.

yes the gas snipers typically are used during the warmer months. which is why i use a spring sniper during winter.

"sniper" is not just a gun and a ghillie, it is a playing style. Until you realize that, you are not one.
