Review: VFC M16 A3 (E-series)

VFC M16 A3 (E-series)
The E-series is VFC's attempt to get their prices down, but to also keep the level of quality that they are known for.  This gun is great for the price and performs great out of the box.  The first shipments they made of the m16 they included a m100 spring installed in the gun, but also a m120 spring that the buyer could choose to install.  They now just ship them with the m120's, I'm assuming that this is because people opened their guns when they got them and immediately voided the warranty.  The gun I received is now shooting 395 FPS with .25's.  It also has a great rate of fire, it is right around 22 bps.  Now onto the gun in detail.

The Body and Build Quality
The receiver is made out of a high quality aluminum that is a matte black.  It has laser engraved trademarks and details that are very clear and crisp.  The body has self contained pins that make this gun very easy to crack open but they also stay in place very well.  It also features a functioning bolt catch so when you pull back the charging handle it stays beck until you press the release.  This come in very handy when adjusting the hop up and adds a nice touch to the gun.  The hand grip on this gun is also slimmer compared to other AEG's, and there is a noticeable difference.  The over all build quality is nice and features little things that make disassembling this gun easier.  Such as the stock is not screwed into the spring guide anymore but instead has its own threads in the stock.  This makes it so you don't have to take the stock off to get the gearbox out.  It also has a unique fuse case that is spring loaded and is smaller than your average fuse case, and has a shorter fuse in it.  The gun has so many unique tastes that won me over to it.

The gun comes with two flash hiders also. One is plastic and orange, and the other is a nice matte metal bird cage flash hider. Here they are:

Internals and Functionality
This gun has very nice trigger response with a 9.6 v, and a nice ROF (22 bps).  The one thing that didn't affect me but will others, is that the gun has a small type connector.  This is odd because most full stock m16's have large type connectors for bigger batteries.  I opened up the gearbox after around a mere 800 rounds of semi and full auto fire.  The spur and sector gear have auto shimming springs that  make it so you only have to shim the bottom of the gears.  The gears and piston showed no sign of wear after the high speed abuse.  There was not even a mark on the piston.  It also had great compression and there was no air leaking and it had a firm seal.  The gearbox is very well made with quality parts that will last for a while.  The hop up unit is clear plastic. The unit has a good air seal but the hop up action seems half ass and I will be replacing it eventually, but it does work decent.

Overall Thoughts
VFC has made a very well made airsoft gun for the price, and lets them into a whole new part of the market.  The gun has a great rate of fire and FPS.  I am very happy with the gun and all its functions and unigue features.  I pay attention to the details and to me this is slightly different than the generic airsoft M16. It also comes with a very nice metal mid cap that holds 75 rd's.  If I had to give this gun a rating out of 1-10, it would have to be 9.  It would be a 10 if the hop up was more effective out of the box but it is mediocre.

Pros:
Metal body
Unique flares to build
22 bps ROF
Great FPS
Effective range
Quality Gearbox
Auto-shimming gears
Functioning Bolt catch
Slimmer Hand grip
Great price
Great upgrade possibilities
No barrel wobble
Comes with metal black flash hider
Quality Metal Mid cap mag

Cons:
Iffy Hop Up unit
Wired to a small type connector(might be a inconvenience to some)

How would you say the VFC E series compares to KWA M4's.

They are pretty close. I went from a KWA m4, to a G&G and then to the VFC, and the VFC reminds me of my old KWA.  The ROF is higher than I remember the old version KWA m16 being.  I think this is right up there with the KWA, they both have aluminum bodies, but the KWA internals might last a little longer than the VFC's.  The 2GX designs are great.  I bought this as a cheaper solution to buying a KWA, and also it looked like a great platform to upgrade.  The VFC's are known for their external and internal build quality.  The E-series is more affordable than the KWA too.  If I had to choose between them without knowing the prices, I would be a hard choice.

VFC accepts after market upgrades much more readily than the KWA will.
