D-boys Scar Internal Upgrade help
« on: May 17, 2010, 12:17:09 PM »
I am a newby and didn't know any better when I decided to purchase a D-boys Scar.  I have had it for a few months and I doubt I've put over 1000 rounds through it.  In any case the piston jammed.  I took it apart and basically the piston is now junk.  Since I will need to replace anyways, what other stuff should I purchase to make this gun better and more reliable.  Budget is $120 to $150.  If you can add links I would certainly appreciate it.

omg pretty much everything hahaha, D-boys internals are absolute junk. U might wanna invest in a completely new gear box. Just drop a new one in. Look for a good one in ur budget like a Matrix upgraded gearbox or something along the lines of that.

Complete G&P gearbox AND a G&P metal body for $145. Then, when you have some more cash, replace the hop-up and barrel.

Actually...now that I think about it...you might want to take that $150, keep saving up, and just buy another gun. D-boys is known for crappy bad poor unreliable guns...I'd just sell it and cut your losses. That's what I did when I bought a d-boys "project gun"; I got tired of putting all kinds of money into it.

The external's aren't all that bad to be honest...internals just blow.

I like the looks of the gun so I'm opting to upgrade it.  I believe, I could be wrong, that the Scar is basically an M4 in the inside.  If I am correct, I think the parts I have listed below may work.  These parts are all in Evike's website.  I've actually had good luck with those guys.  Suggestions are welcome.  Is there an airsoft store in Maine? I know Army Barracks has the guns but I don't remember seeing any parts.

1 x  Systema Area 1000 Steel Reinforced Piston Head.
1 x  Modify 7mm Gearbox Bearing Set.
1 x  New Version Mad Bull Airsoft Black Python 6.03mm tight Bore Inner AEG Barrel. (509mm)
1 x  Guarder Stanless Steel Ver.2 Cylinder Head for Tokyo Marui Compatible A.E.G.
1 x  Matrix Ultra Precision Gun Smith Airsoft AEG Gearbox Shim Set (40 pcs)
1 x  Matrix / Element Airsoft AEG Gearbox Grease Set
1 x  Guarder High Precision Oil Tampered Nozzle for M16A2 / M4 Series Airsoft AEG
1 x  Guarder Super Lucid Chromium Plating Cylinder for MARUI M4A1/SR16 series A.E.G.
1 x  Systema Hop Up Bucking / Hop Packing for Airsoft AEG
1 x  Guarder Poly carbonate Piston for Tokyo Marui AEG Series

Here is a possible option http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_68_518&products_id=24818 it has a strange electrical motor connection but i'm sure that it could be made to work.

Add an ECHO-1 H-Nub to that list Flipper...and, if you can afford it, grab either a G&P or a King Arms Hop-Up unit as well.

The hop up in my Scar looks like the one in the link below

http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_71_372&products_id=31115

Does it have to be the same design?  The link below is what I'm guessing may work?

http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?products_id=25930

Last but not least the nub.  Is the link below correct?

I'm not sure if SCAR's use a proprietary hop-up unit or not...but you're gonna want to make sure before you go and buy a new unit. Yes, the link to the nub is correct. I have one of those in my Thompson and it performs VERY well.

If you don't want to replace the hop-up unit, you could use the money to grab a tightbore instead:

The madbull tightbore barrels are decent for the money. They're not gonna perform as well as a Prometheus, but then again they're not gonna cost you $60.

Th Madbull ultimate hop up looks like it should work and I have heard good things about it.   Also Madbull has started making 6.01 mm barrels that are reasonably priced they might not have the right length though.

I think you should just buy a new gearbox aswell... It would be well worth your while and does fit your budget. you will find your gun will shoot a lot better!
