cut the spring
« on: February 06, 2010, 12:40:36 AM »
Im going to replace the 130 spring with the stock 100 in my m4.  I was wondering what to do with the 130 spring, as its too much for the fields in the area.  Can I cut a coil or two down a little to weaken it? I thought that once it had a few thousand rounds in it the spring would realax but that is not the case, i need to take it out. Any thoughts. I  could short stroke the piston, increase rof, and not compress the spring all the way. ??

You could shortstroke it, but generally when shortstroking a gun, you lose around 10 fps per tooth for the first like 3 or 4 then it starts getting more dramatic. Otherwise, you could just take a pair of clippers and cut it a little but shorter, I would say 1.5-2 coils would do the trick.

That worked well, I dont have a chrono but I only needed to lose 15 or so fps. Wasnt sure if you were gonna be there today with chrono.
