silencers homemade or evike type vs fps
« on: January 23, 2010, 06:37:14 AM »
I need to replace the plastic flash hider on my m4, and am thinking of a suppressor, homemade or one on evike.  How much will this reduce my fps, as my gun is a liitle hot as it is and this would be a good fix, compared to a different spring?  I need a 10-15fps  fps reduction.

A mock suppressor wouldn't lower your FPS. If your trying to lower your FPS a spring swap is the way to go.

Yeah, I know a spring swap will do the trick I just dont want to lose 50-75 fps in doing so.  I have heard that a supressor (tube with stuffing of some sort) will reduce fps some. I can build one and then test it I guess. I will tube it and find out.

Test it if you like, but it wont make a differance. Now if you extend the barrel out through the supressor, that will have a effect, perhaps that is what was ment by what you read.

FPS isn't everything man. What are you trying to get it to shoot FPS wise? A Guarder SP120 spring would most likely bring it right around 430 with .2's...I have one in my M14 and that's what its shooting right now.

I should have gone with a 120 but figured with air leaks, and after the spring breaks in it would be lower. I guess I will get a 120 put in it. I know fps isnt everything, I would love to have a 350 - 400 shooter that would do 4 inch groups at 75 yards. I can get 8 in - 10 in groups at that range now. Not as accurate as I would like. I know these arent real steel shooting sub moa.

Consistent 10" groups at 75 yards with an airsoft gun is nothing to sneeze at. That means you have the ability to consistently hit a man-sized target at 225 feet, which is something that most airsoft snipers would be proud of.

After selling pics of Joker on his boat in his driveway on EbaY, the vehicle is fixed for now, so I will be out to play

SP120 should return 430 FPS with .20's. SP120 is different than an M120. All I did compression mod wise to my M14 was teflon tape around the cylinder head, everything else inside the gearbox is stock. If your looking for better accuracy, Prometheus tightbore barrel, you can run the barrel through a mock suppressor, Systema bucking, SCS nub, and an upgraded hop-up unit such as  the Madbull ultimate, King Arms, or G&P hop-up units.
