When choosing safety glasses, I've seen the classic "lab" glasses used:

While these glasses do provide some protection... there not the best for airsoft.
They fall off, sometimes the straps break, they can hinder your vision because the lenses are not clear.
I attempted to wear a pair of these that I had while playing airsoft and was extremely uncomfortable.
Most people, including myself, use these:

You can buy them at WalMart, or Armybarracks. They'll run you about $5-$10, and I've noticed that the more expensive Winchester glasses arn't that much better then the cheaper Crossman ones... but you may choose what you want. Some wear better then others, and because you will have to wear them a lot, I suggest getting the ones that feel best to you.
Between the two available glasses, they are both rated to the same amount of protection.
Also, many players may choose to wear:

These goggles provide the best protection, but have there own drawbacks. I myself have a pair for games that may require them, but I choose to wear my glasses instead. Some players find them uncomfortable. Yet, other players are totally comfortable wearing them, so as I said, it's all about what you prefer.
A note about Sunglasses:

Most sunglasses will NOT be counted as safety glasses. They have thin lenses and will break when a BB is shot at them.
For sun protection I would highly suggest:

Clip on sunglasses. They can be put up when the suns in your face or down when the suns not in your view.
They have them in yellow, or the classic "dark brown" that you know.
