Safety Goggles/Glasses
« on: March 11, 2009, 06:14:10 PM »
When choosing safety glasses, I've seen the classic "lab" glasses used:

While these glasses do provide some protection... there not the best for airsoft.
They fall off, sometimes the straps break, they can hinder your vision because the lenses are not clear.
I attempted to wear a pair of these that I had while playing airsoft and was extremely uncomfortable.
Most people, including myself, use these:

You can buy them at WalMart, or Armybarracks. They'll run you about $5-$10, and I've noticed that the more expensive Winchester glasses arn't that much better then the cheaper Crossman ones... but you may choose what you want. Some wear better then others, and because you will have to wear them a lot, I suggest getting the ones that feel best to you.
Between the two available glasses, they are both rated to the same amount of protection.

Also, many players may choose to wear:
These goggles provide the best protection, but have there own drawbacks. I myself have a pair for games that may require them, but I choose to wear my glasses instead. Some players find them uncomfortable. Yet, other players are totally comfortable wearing them, so as I said, it's all about what you prefer.

A note about Sunglasses:

Most sunglasses will NOT be counted as safety glasses. They have thin lenses and will break when a BB is shot at them.
For sun protection I would highly suggest:

Clip on sunglasses. They can be put up when the suns in your face  or down when the suns not in your view.
They have them in yellow, or the classic "dark brown" that you know.

Hey Spartan's,
For one Thank you again for having the Warthogs.
A note on those who wear sun glasses. I noticed a few people wearing target practice safety glasses, these do not protect well for Airsoft. Unless they hug close to the face your eyes are at risk from the unlucky side shot. Warthogs will be dumping our Paintball head gear and going to a goggle, Unless you are totally closed in there is always a risk.

I wear my Oakleys, and yes they are not as good as a full seal, but they are rated for impact strike and are tight around my eyes. Full seals are what I recommend to everyone as they will be required soon.

I need to make a comment here.
Recently I made a trip to WallMart in Lewiston and for about $10 I bought a paintball mask.
This mask had easily detachable full seal Z87.1 rated goggles with it. I thought the mask would be a joke (seeing as it came from Wallie's World) but the goggles and the mask is very comfortable. Without the mask the goggles are very slimlined and they look reasonable unlike some goggles that make you feel like your wearing a brick over your eyes.

I have some full seal goggles with the mask, but I HATE them.  I hope we can continue to use safety glasses.

No Gambi, Full Seal Goggles are a field requirement and everyone should be getting theirs because soon we will be making people leave who do not have the right stuff.

FYI, when using face masks, make sure the holes are small enough to stop a BB.  I have personally seen 3 people loose teeth while wearing a face mask.  Most are made to stop large paintballs and not small Airsoft BB's.

I used a Dye Invision mask with a fan in the past with no fogging issues.

well it doesn't have to be small enough. (you don't have to wear them) but yea good point. no reason in using it if it doesn't do anything.  :D

Really? I though it was going to be in affect but not a rule yet. I will remember that.

Like he said, i had a paintball mask (i think it was from dick's) and I detached the goggles off from the other face protection (mouth, nose, forehead) and they seem to be good. Would they be allowed to be used at SA? here is a pic of it. [/url]/img]

sorry if its a bit large.
